Chris Ridgway Captures 4th Gold Medal at Extremity Games

He Prepares for 2010 X-Games as Reigning Gold Medalist

APPLE VALLEY, CA – July 12, 2010:  Chris Ridgway won his 4th consecutive gold medal in Adaptive Motocross at the Extremity Games over Memorial Day weekend at the Baja Acres Motocross Park in Millington, MI.  A total of 400 contestants competed in the 5th Annual Extremity Games with 17 racers competing against Ridgway in the Adaptive Motocross Limb Loss Division.  In the end of July, Ridgway will be appearing in Los Angeles at the X-Games where he will compete for his 3rd Adaptive MotoX Gold Medal.

Ridgway faced some challenges prior to the race.  He had been practicing non-stop for three weeks, when six days before the race he crashed and injured several ribs and dislocated both shoulders.  “I was devastated, here I had put all of this work into competing, and now I was loosing before I even got there.  It took me a day to regroup, but I knew I had to ride injured and was not going to quit,” said Ridgway. The practice, strength and discipline paid off for him.

Ridgway took 1st in the first moto of the Extremity Games and came in 2nd in the second moto.  Since his main competitor finished father back in the first moto, he didn’t have to win the second moto to take the title, but it sure didn’t stop him from trying.  “The whole second moto we were within a second of each other. It hurt so bad to breath with the broken ribs, but I didn’t want him to pass me and then he finally did on the last lap.  I didn’t have to win, but anytime I can take on the competition and win I want to,” stated Ridgway.

With the success of the Extremity Games in his mind, Ridgway is working towards defending his reign and capturing his 3rd Adaptive MotoX Gold Medal at the 2010 Summer X-Games in Los Angeles, CA on August 29, 2010.  Riding his 2010 RMZ450, Chris will compete against the same group of competitors, but the X-Games track is tougher and the jumps are insane.  “Last year the finish line jump was by far the biggest jump I have ever done in my life, and it was a jump gone bad that I am missing my leg from,” commented Ridgway  “But instead of walking away, it is pushing me to work that much harder.”

The Adaptive Moto-X games will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the L.A. Coliseum in Los Angeles, CA.  For a schedule of the 2010 Summer X-Games visit http://espn.go.com/action/xgames

About Chris Ridgway – Chris Ridgway is an amputee and competes wearing a prosthetic left leg.  His professional motocross career was cut short in 1995 when he had a “bad day at the office” falling from over 30 ft in the air and has since struggled to maintain strength in both his legs. After eight years, he finally convinced a doctor to amputate his left leg and is now stronger than ever.  His competitive spirit originated with motocross and now he competes in many different events, including motocross, Rock Racing, King of the Hammers, Grand Am Rolex Series, the Silver State Classic, and Baja 1000.  Some of his impressive wins include the X Games Gold Medalist: 2008, 2009; and the Extremity Games Gold Medalist: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.

JGR Honda, EKS BRAND factory racer Timmy Wigand dominated the 30+ Pro class at the legendary Mammoth motocross over the weekend. Timmy raced his way to two perfect moto scores to take the overall win and the coveted “bear” trophy.

What makes this win even more impressive is the fact that Timmy suffered a stroke and had to have full blown, open heart surgery to repair a hole in his heart just over 3 months ago!

Timmy will be going for the win again this weekend in Mammoth as the race continues with several more classes.

Open heart surgery to winning one of the most prestigous races in the country in less than 4 months!

Yamaha/ITP Quadcross Series Round 4 Speedworld MX Park, Surprise, AZ 6/19/10

Round four of the 2010 Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series was held at Speedworld MX Park in Surprise, AZ. The first of two visits to the facility for the 2010 season. Speed world is unique in that they hold the only night races in the Quadcross schedule, mostly to try and overcome the heat of racing in Arizona during the summer months. Temperatures were somewhat mild for this weekends race as the daytime high was about 106 degrees with temps cooling down to the low 90’s when the sun went down. The Speedworld track is fast and smooth with lots of jumps, aggressive passes can be made but the track gets a little one lined so getting a good start is key.

Moto 1: The #94 YFZ 450R Of Nelson rocketed off the concrete start pad and pulled to a great holeshot. Nelson was in command of lead and would not look back dominating the moto!

EKS BARNDS Beau Baron rounded the first lap in 3rd. Baron was still 3rd at the half way mark and started closing on Noss who sat in the second spot. They would battle for the remainder of the moto with Baron falling just short at the finish.

Moot 2: Nelson jumped out of the gate and grabbed a massive holeshot. He again would ride flawlessly to the finish never being challenged!

Baron gated in 3rd and quickly made an aggressive pass on Noss at the end of the first lap pushing him over a berm and putting himself into the 2nd position.

The top two running order would stay the same to the finish.

EKS Brand Goggles Place Three in the Top Ten at Budds Creek

2010
06.21

This past weekend in Budds Creek, Maryland and Calgary, Alberta, EKS Brand goggle athletes made their mark at the highest levels with some good rides. Mike Alessi of Factory KTM raced hard to a second place in the first moto and put EKS on the podium. In the second moto, Mike made contact with another rider and bent his front disc thereby forcing Alessi to salvage as many points as he could in getting a twelfth. His 2-12 finishes added up to a fifth overall on the day.

Motoconcepts Yamaha teammates Ryan Sipes and Kyle Chisholm had great days and both placed inside the top ten of the premier 450 class. After four rounds, Alessi is fourth in the points and Sipes and Chisholm are tied for seventh giving EKS Brand three riders in the top ten which is tied for the most riders in the top ten out of every goggle company out there.

Meanwhile in Calgary, Machine Racing’s Kyle Keast used EKS Brand goggles to end up fourth overall on the day in the MX1 class and after three rounds up north, is currently second in the points.

Yamaha/ITP Quadcross Series Round 3 Rynoland, Anza, CA 5/9/10
Round three of the 2010 Yamaha/ITP Quadcross series was held at Rynoland in Anza, CA. This was the first time the series has been to Rynoland, which is known mostly for being a two wheeled training facility for owner, Ryan Hughes. The track was very skinny and slippery making passing difficult for most. There were however a few rough straights that were plenty wide for passing.

Moto 1: EKS BRAND racer Beau Baron pulled the holeshot with Justin Noss second, Reed Petchnick third, Jason Dunkleberger fourth and EKS BRAND’s Dustin Nelson in fifth. Nelson quickly bagan picking off riders. First was Petchnick, who made a mistake and pushed over a berm letting Nelson by. Soon after, Nelson jumped passed Dunk down a rough downhill to take over the third spot, then just before the end of the first lap Dustin passed Noss up a whooped out uphill. Baron had a small gap out front but Nelson was closing in fast. On lap three Nelson out braked Baron going into a turn to take over the lead. The running order stayed the same to the finish. Nelson took the moto win with Baron second, Noss third, Dunk fourth and John Shafe fifth.

Moto 2: The gate fell much smoother in the second moto and Noss took the holeshot and the GYTR $250 holeshot award. Nelson slotted into second as they rounded the first turn. Again Nelson powered by to pass Noss on the same rough uphill that he did in the first moto to take the lead just before the end of the first lap. Baron had made his way to third by the end of lap one. With clear track ahead Nelson put down some really good laps and opened up a margin that would eventually peak at about 15 seconds. Baron made up some ground on Noss and the two started an epic battle that would see them change positions 4 or 5 times before Baron made the pass stick and started to pull away from Noss with three laps to go. At the finish, Nelson took the win ten seconds ahead of Baron. Noss was third, Dunk fourth and Shafe fifth.

Dustin Nelson dominated the field and saw his way clear to the overall victory at Round 4 of the WORCS series. EKS BRAND teammate, Beau Barron brought home a hard fought 4th!

Dustin’s words:

Round 4 at Racetown couldn’t have gone any better.  After spending the whole week prior in Oakhurst riding Grizzly’s for the 2011 brochure and ad shoot I was a little worried going into the race weekend without having ridden my YFZ-R in more than a week.  Saturday started well with me riding the early morning Unclassified race to knock the rust off.  The track was fast and fun as it was completely smooth for the morning session.

Saturday afternoon was the pro practice with timed qualifying for gate pick in Sunday’s main event.  I did my fast lap as soon as the green flag waived and while my lap wasn’t perfect, it was good enough to take the top spot with a 9:25.41 over Jeremie Warnia’s 9:25.48.  That’s right, only .07 of a second difference between first and second qualifiers, Josh Frederick was third, 4 seconds back.

Sunday’s main event started great with my #94 YFZ 450R pulling me to the holeshot.  Warnia was close behind and pressured me for the first couple laps until he crashed while trying to pass me on the outside entering a one lined corner.  He got up next to me down a rough straight and tried to squeeze in where there was no room, his front wheel turned pretty hard into my nerf bar and then I saw him tumble over the berm from the corner of my eye.  After that I had about 10 seconds of breathing room over Frederick.  I settled down after about 4 laps and began to smooth out and ride my lines like I wanted.  From there my lead began to grow, eventually getting up to about a minute before I rode very conservative for the final couple laps and brought it home to take the win with about 40 seconds over Frederick and Warnia around 3 minutes back in third.
